This month, Dr. Rajendra K. Pachauri joins us to discuss climate policy from India's perspective. Dr. Pachauri will offer insights gained from his multiple roles in the international climate policy arena: Director General of the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Director of the Yale Climate & Energy Institute (YCEI), and the Chair of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

About the Speaker

Dr. Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is the Chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the scientific intergovernmental body that provides decision-makers and the public with an objective source of information about climate change. He is also Director General of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), a major independent research organization providing knowledge on energy, environment, forestry, biotechnology, and the conservation of natural resources. Dr Pachauri is a prominent researcher on environmental subjects, recognized internationally for his efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change. Since July 2009 he has also been the Director of the Yale Climate and Energy Institute. He is active in several international forums dealing with the subject of climate change and its policy dimensions. He was awarded the second-highest civilian award in India, the "Padma Vibhushan" in January 2008 by the President of India and received the "Officier De La Légion D’Honneur" from the Government of France in 2006. He has been conferred with "The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star" by His Majesty Akihito, Emperor of Japan, the "Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland" by the Prime Minister of Finland and the "Commander of the Order of Leopold II" by the King of the Belgians.

About the Series

Hosted and sponsored by the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy, in partnership with the World Resources Institute and Environmental Defense Fund, the Climate Change Solutions: Frontline Perspectives from Around the Globe webinar series features ten speakers between September 2011 and April 2012. This series highlights the current state of climate change policy actions through speakers who provide unique insight into the latest policy developments in the world’s highest greenhouse gas emitting countries: United States, China, Germany, Russia, India, United Kingdom, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Brazil.

The series is publicly available online and promoted to both domestic and international academic and policy communities, including governmental officials, think tank analysts, climate change advocates, professors, and students. The webinar format enables those interested in international climate change policy to access and participate in these presentations from anywhere in the world.

The series is free and open to the public.

A recording of the presentation will be posted online for public access after the event.
