President Bharrat Jagdeo of Guyana will give the keynote speech at WRI’s official side event at the Copenhagen climate conference on Tuesday December 15.
National efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and adapt to the impacts of rising temperatures, will be critical to the effectiveness of a new climate agreement. Guyana is already taking steps in this direction and President Jagdeo will focus on his country’s experience with low-carbon planning in the forest sector.
Other speakers at the event will explore how to implement and scale up transformative ideas in the realms of clean energy, forestry, and adaptation. They will include leading Indian businessman and WRI Board member Jamshyd N. Godrej – a past president of the Confederation of Indian Industry - as well as WRI President Jonathan Lash, WRI Climate and Energy Director Jennifer Morgan and WRI China Country Director Zou Ji.
The event – The Best Laid Plans: Turning Ideas into Action on Mitigation, Adaptation and Finance – will take place at the Liva Weel Room, Bella Center from 10.45am to 12.15pm.
