Hampir 50.000 orang mengalami masalah pernapasan akibat kabut asap tersebut, menurut Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Indonesia. Citra-citra satelit dengan cukup dramatis menggambarkan banyaknya asap polutan yang dilepaskan ke atmosfer, yang juga berkontribusi kepada perubahan iklim.
