World Resources 2000-2001 is the result of a unique partnership among the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the World REsources Institute (WRI). It is the only instance where UN agencies, a multilateral financial instittion, and n NGO work together in a true partnership to determkine the content, conclusions, and recommendations of a major report.
For this millennial edition, we give special acknowledgment to the generous support of the United Nations Foundation in improving the presentation and dissemination of the report and to the Netherlands Ministry of Foregin Affairs for increasing international collaboration on the report. We are also grateful to the institutions listed in our acknowledgments section (p. 362ff.) for supporting the Pilot Analysis of Global Ecosystems and the international effort to establish a Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, and for contributing data, reviews, and encouragement to the whole project.
A special thank you goes to the AVINA Foundation, the Global Environment Facility, and the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships for their early support of PAGE and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, which was instrumental in launching our efforts.
