Appliances

World Resources Institute seeks to set a good example in the type of appliances selected.

Computer monitors, copiers, and printers have the EPA Energy Star rating. Energy star-labeled products use less energy than other products, save money on utility bills, and help protect the environment. Energy star is a voluntary partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, product manufacturers, local utilities, and retailers.

All of the appliances used in the kitchenettes -- refrigerators, dishwashers, and microwaves -- also have the EPA Energy Star rating, and they are leading appliances in that they use much less water and energy to operate. The whirlpool refrigerator exceeds federal energy standards by 25 percent and the Asko dishwasher is recognized by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy as the most efficient model available.
