About Tien

Tien Shiao is an Associate with the Markets and Enterprise Program. She is responsible for the design and development of the Aqueduct database and derivative tools. Aqueduct measures and maps water-related business risks for companies and investors. In addition to physical risks, Aqueduct provides information on regulatory and reputational risk to companies.

Prior to WRI, Tien worked for four years at Battelle Memorial Institute, a research and technology firm based in Columbus, Ohio. As an environmental engineer, she led several technology assessment projects for municipalities to remove arsenic from drinking water. She also enjoyed her summer experience as a fellow at the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute investigating market opportunities for a patent-pending drinking water technology.

Tien is a native Taiwanese but grew up in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and Malaysia. She holds a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University, a Master in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor in Civil and Environmental Engineering from University of Michigan- Ann Arbor.

Tien is an avid tennis player and is always on a look-out for a good coffee shop.
