Sonya Suter is the Special Assistant to the Managing Director. She provides coordination, research, and scheduling support for the managing director and staffs WRI’s executive and management teams.

Prior to joining WRI, Sonya was a research assistant at ICF International where her projects included work on transportation policy and strategies to reduce transportation’s greenhouse gas emissions, strategic planning efforts for clients such as New York State Department of Transportation, and analysis for EPA and IEA related to carbon capture and sequestration. While in school, Sonya served as a research assistant studying climate change adaptation in rural areas in the developing world.

Sonya received her B.A. in public policy from the University of Michigan with a minor in environmental studies. During her undergraduate studies, she spent four months studying sustainable development in Senegal, and communicates comfortably in French.
