About Remi
Remi Moncel is a Senior Associate in WRI’s Climate and Energy Program. He is based in California where he is also a Dean’s Fellow and Juris Doctor candidate at UC Berkeley Law School. As a member of the International Climate Initiative at WRI, he focuses on the design of an effective and equitable climate change regime.
Remi follows and informs the negotiations at the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and regularly convenes workshops with government and business officials, international institutions and civil society experts to design an inclusive, effective and equitable international climate agreement by 2015. He also seeks to develop complementary bilateral, plurilateral and multilateral approaches to increase countries’ level of ambition. Remi frequently speaks and publishes on the topic and has been cited in media outlets around the world, including the Economist, CCTV and National Public Radio. He was the lead author of the joint WRI-UNEP analysis titled Building the Climate Change Regime, which identifies pathways for strengthening international cooperation on climate change based on a review of over 130 proposals from academics, governments and NGOs. He has also published extensively on the topic of the reporting and verification of country commitments.
Prior to this, Remi was a Research Analyst and Coordinator with WRI’s Institutions and Governance Program, which works with governments, NGOs and public and private banks to promote transparent, inclusive and accountable decision-making on environmental and natural resource issues. He holds an MA in Political Science from France’s Sciences Po Lyon.
