Nikhil ChaudharyAssociate – Urban Development and Accessibility, EMBARQ India
Nikhil is an Associate - Urban Transport at EMBARQ India. The focus of his work includes projects that deal with improving pedestrian accessibility, developing high quality walking environments within critical urban areas, and developing master plans and structure-plans for green field development using transit-oriented development. He is based in Mumbai and works on multiple aspects of an accessibility review that include surveys, data collection, mapping exercises, preparing drawings and graphic representation of data, formulation of proposals and preparation of final reports.
He is presently contributing to the development of pedestrian accessibility for the industrial area of MIDC in Mumbai in the vicinity of a soon-to-be-operational Metro station. He is also involved in the accessibility and transit-oriented designing of a single sector within the master plan of Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
As a student, Nikhil was part of Urban Development Studios at Ahmedabad, Pondicherry, Pune and Nagpur. He has won the Indian Association of Human Habitat Annual Student Award for his transit-oriented development project for Ariankuppam, Pondicherry. He was team-leader of the team that was awarded first-place at the Annual Urban Planning Workshop 2011 at Cergy-Pontoise, Paris, organised by Les Ateliers. The workshop focused on developing a 2050 vision for the business district of Le Defense through concept-driven projects.
Nikhil was awarded first place in the category of “Urban Development and Transformation, Landscape Development” for his research on “Reverse Thrust: Restructuring the Urban Fringes along Ring-Roads in Nagpur City” at the Blue Award 2012, a biennial international student competition that honors projects addressing the topic of sustainability in the fields of architecture, regional planning and urbanism.
Nikhil is a trained architect and a research-oriented urban designer, with a Masters Degree in Urban Design from the CEPT University, India. He is also a graphic artist, passionate about representing urban issues through various forms sequential art and illustrations.
