About Luke

Luke Schoen is an Associate with WRI’s Climate and Energy Program. As Manager of WRI’s ChinaFAQss project, he works to facilitate a network of internationally renowned experts in answering critical questions about Chinese policy and action on energy and climate change, and about the implications for the United States. Through collaboration with experts, ChinaFAQs provides credible data, research, and direct interaction with experts to increase understanding about China’s climate and energy policies among Members of the U.S. Congress, officials at federal agencies, and opinion leaders.

Prior to joining WRI, Luke was a Research Fellow with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he worked on regional air quality management issues and capacity building in the U.S. and China. Previously, Luke studied Mandarin at Beijing Normal University, worked in the Beijing Bureau of CNN, and spent three years teaching in Japan with the JET Programme.

Luke holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Asian Studies from Dartmouth College. Concentrating in Sustainable Development Economics and International Environment and Resource Policy at the Fletcher School, his Master’s thesis compared the status of smart grid development and deployment in the U.S. and China and opportunities for international collaboration.

Luke is an avid sailor and can be found in his spare time teaching the sport on the Potomac with the National Maritime Heritage Foundation. He also enjoys photography, hiking, and travel.
