About Chris Ganson

Chris Ganson is a Senior Associate developing WRI’s body of work in domestic transportation greenhouse gases. His primary experience lies in the reduction of passenger vehicle miles traveled.

Work products produced in his first five months at WRI include an analysis of the Cash for Clunkers program (with Lee Shipper and others) and a paper on the need to for continued attention on policies to reduce vehicle miles traveled even under an economy-wide cap (with the recently departed WRI Research Analyst Robert Heilmayr).

Prior to arriving at WRI, he developed a transportation greenhouse gas emissions inventory for cities; developed a tool to estimate greenhouse gas emissions resulting from new residential and commercial development; and wrote the transportation technical background report for the City of Berkeley’s Climate Action Plan. Earlier work included analysis of the driving forces behind greenhouse gas emissions growth in developing countries and research on the potential for emissions reduction from US industry (both at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory); implementation of the California Environmental Quality Act; and environmental education with students of all ages.

He holds masters degrees in City and Regional Planning and Transportation Engineering and a bachelors degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley.
