About Ashwin
Ashwin is an Associate – Urban Transport at EMBARQ India. He is based in Bangalore where his primary responsibility is working with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) to improve the quality of public bus services in the city. He also co-ordinates technical support for several other transport projects in the city of Bangalore, including a proposed Bus Rapid Transport System for the city, improving public transport terminals and support infrastructure, developing a greenhouse gas inventory for the transport sector and improving non-motorized transport environments, particularly for cycling.
Ashwin has several years of experience working with urban issues. Prior to EMBARQ, he was a member of the research staff at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, where he provided statistical and economic analysis for a number of research projects on public health in urban areas. He has also been involved in a number of independent consultancy projects in the field of urban development including developing a growth strategy for the manufacturing sector in the city of Mbarara, Uganda, developing a feasibility study for retrofitting residential buildings with energy saving technologies in London, UK, and conducting a project assessment for an industrial park designed to promote the green economy in London, UK.
Ashwin has been formally trained as an economist and an urban development planner. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Columbia University, USA, and a Master’s degree in Urban Economic Development from University College London.
