About Arthur

Arthur K. Droe is the Controller of the World Resources Institute. He is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions. He manages the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of WRI’s consolidated business results.

Mr. Droe prepares internal and external financial statements and coordinates the activities of external auditors. He provides management with vital information needed for decision making. He assesses current accounting operations of WRI and offers recommendations for improvements and implementation of new processes. He evaluates accounting and internal control systems as well as the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database. Developing and monitoring business performance metrics and overseeing regulatory reporting are his responsibilities as well. He is responsible for budgeting, hiring, training and retaining competent accounting staff. He was also head of IT department until 2011. As head of IT, WRI’s email system was migrated from GroupWise to Outlook and the network systems in our China and India offices were set up.

Mr. Droe joined WRI in 1994 from Greenpeace where he served as Assistant Controller for several years. He also served as Internal Audit Manager for the Agricultural and Cooperative Development Bank before joining Greenpeace. In his first 2 years at WRI, he moved the accounting system from Solomon to a more robust project and contract based software called Deltek (Costpoint). Over the years, he added Cognos, Powerplay, Impromptu, Concur, Contributor, etc. He holds a master’s degree in Accounting from the George Washington University in Washington, DC. He served as Treasurer of the board of directors for DC Habitat for Humanity from 2001 - 2004, member of Washington Association of Financial Management Roundtable, National Society of Public Accountants, and the Association of PVO Financial Managers. He is an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Strayer University where he teaches Federal taxation, Cost Accounting, Not-for Profit, Government Accounting as well as Auditing.

Arthur lives in Frederick, Maryland with his German born wife Elena Droe. Elena is an internationally recognized author of Peter III, The Prince of Holstein under the name Elena Palmer. She is also an expert Pianist and a journalist.
