About Alper Unal

Originally from Turkey, Alper received his MS and PhD from North Carolina State University in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He also completed his PhD Minor in Statistics at NCSU. His PhD research focused on measurement, characterization, and modeling of vehicle emissions under real-world conditions. He completed NCDOT project on quantifying the impact of traffic controls on vehicle emissions. He also worked on development of next generation vehicle emissions model (MOVES model) for USEPA.

Alper joined Georgia Institute of Technology for his Post-Doctoral Research. There he worked on quantification of the impact of different emission source categories on air quality, such as the impact of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on regional air quality and the impact of biomass burning from Fort Benning. Later, he joined MACTEC Corporation to do consulting work for New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. He mainly focused on identifying/developing control strategies to reduce Ozone, PM2.5, and Regional Haze levels in the state of New Jersey. Now Alper joined EMBARQ as a Senior Research Scientist and Project Manager for the Clean Fuels, Clean Tech for the Istanbul project.
