Two high-level forums recently convened in Washington D.C. to deal with some of the most challenging forestry and climate change issues facing the international community.
The World Bank hosted the Global Forest Leaders Forum on Forests and Climate Change (co-chaired by WRI), part of a process to give voice to the world’s forests and the people who depend on them.
Separately, UNDP, FAO and UNEP hosted a workshop on REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation). The workshop’s objective was to develop guidelines for monitoring, assessment and verification, that would support ways to address REDD in international negotiations and agreements, in particular the UNFCCC process.
