WEBINAR: Energy Efficiency in U.S. Midwest Pulp and Paper Mills

We invite you to participate in an upcoming webinar on the World Resources Institute’s latest report: Energy Efficiency in U.S. Midwest Pulp and Paper Mills, co-hosted by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA).

WRI shows the scale of energy efficiency potential for Midwest pulp and paper mills and assesses the economic and environmental benefits of seizing this untapped resource. This study also highlights the importance of efficiency for preserving the competitiveness of these energy-intensive facilities, recommending energy policies that could enable cost-effective investments that would improve their bottom lines and help marginal mills survive.

The webinar will begin with a presentation by report authors Nate Aden and James Bradbury, summarizing key findings and takeaways. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the following questions:

• How do energy efficiency investments increase pulp and paper mill economic competitiveness?

• What existing government programs and resources are available for increasing manufacturer energy efficiency?

• How can manufacturers finance their energy efficiency investments?

• What policies, programs, or company practices would be most effective for increasing manufacturing energy efficiency?

• Nate Aden is a Research Fellow with WRI’s Climate and Energy Program. As a member of the U.S. Climate Objective, Nate researches industrial energy use, emissions, and related policies.

• James Bradbury is a Senior Associate in WRI’s Climate and Energy Program, conducting research and analysis on U.S. federal and state climate and energy policies. James leads WRI’s Midwest manufacturing initiative, working with partners to advance cost effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through industrial energy efficiency.
