UNEP & WRI Press Conference: "Reducing Food Loss and Waste"

Worldwide, about one-third of all food produced, worth around US$1 trillion, gets lost or wasted in food production and consumption systems. When this figure is converted to calories, this means that about 1 in 4 calories intended for human consumption is never actually eaten.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the WRI will release the second installment of the upcoming Creating a Sustainable Food Future report, entitled Reducing Food Loss and Waste.

This working paper identifies ways of reducing food loss and food waste, and examines solutions from around the world – ranging from the methods of food storage employed by farmers in developing countries to the amenities offered in the cafeterias of American Universities.

Key findings will be presented, and a question and answer session will follow.
