The GHG Protocol provides a full suite of accounting and reporting standards, sector guidance, calculation tools, and trainings for business and government. It establishes a comprehensive, global, standardized framework for measuring and managing emissions from private and public sector operations, value chains, products, cities, and policies.
The design of GHG Protocol standards and tools is driven by generally accepted accounting and reporting principles (Completeness, Accuracy, Consistency, Relevance, and Transparency) and the needs of decision-makers. The GHG Protocol produces general standards applicable to all sectors and regions, as well as specific guidance and calculation tools for select industry sectors such as agriculture, cement, aluminum, iron & steel, electricity, information & communication technology, public sector agencies, and more. Currently GHG Protocol is developing global standards in the following areas:
Mitigation action accounting
Scope 2 accounting and reporting
Agriculture sector accounting
Financial sector accounting
Multi-impact and avoided emissions
The GHG Protocol also provides webinar, e-learning and in-person training and capacity-building support on its standards and tools. In addition, GHG Protocol offers companies and organizations the opportunity to apply for our “Built on GHG Protocol” mark that recognizes sector guidance, product rules, or tools that are in conformance with GHG Protocol Standards.
