About Remi
Remi Moncel is an Associate in WRI’s Climate and Energy Program. As part of the International Climate Initiative, he follows and informs the negotiations at the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and seeks to develop innovative policy solutions to address climate change bilaterally and multilaterally.
Remi leads WRI’s work on role of the UNFCCC in a broader enabling environment for enhanced collective climate action. As such, he informs the design of procedures and institutions to measure, report and verify country commitments in a way that is environmentally sound and aligns with countries’ domestic priorities. In addition, his research focuses on ways to raise ambition in the climate regime through a comprehensive legal framework and periodic global reviews of the long-term global goal and the implementation of country commitments.
He was the lead author of the joint WRI-UNEP analysis titled Building the Climate Change Regime, which identify pathways for strengthening international cooperation on climate change based on a review of over 130 proposals from academics, governments and civil society experts.
Prior to this, Remi was a Research Analyst and Coordinator with WRI’s Institutions and Governance Program, which works with Governments, NGOs and public and private banks to promote transparent, inclusive and accountable decision-making on environmental and natural resource issues. Remi holds an MA in Political Science from Sciences Po Lyon (France).
