About Xiaomei
Xiaomei Tan serves as Deputy China Country Director and China Sustainable Cities Project Director.
In her capacity as China Sustainable Cities Project Director, she is responsible for ensuring WRI China achieves measurable results consistent WRI’s strategy and oversees the strategic direction, growth and implementation of the Sustainable Cities Project in China. As Deputy China Country Director, she is also responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the long-term vision and strategy for WRI’s China Program.
Prior to joining WRI China, Xiaomei was a senior associate at WRI’s International Financial Flows and the Environment team, where she led the Emerging Actors in Development Finance work. Before that she was the project manager of China Climate and Energy Program at WRI. She has been working on national and international energy policy for over 10 years, focusing on energy technology, clean technology development, and power sector climate policy. Xiaomei has published a number of articles in peer reviewed journals and newspaper, including Energy Policy, International Journal for Sustainable Development, Ecological Economy, Chinese Journal of Population, Resources and Environment, and China Science and Technology Daily. Xiaomei holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science, a Masters degree in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Public Policy, with a focus on environmental policy.
