WASHINGTON—The World Resources Institute announced that Her Excellency Renée Jones-Bos, Secretary General in the Dutch Foreign Ministry, will join its Board of Directors. Secretary Jones-Bos served as Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United States from August 2008 to June 2012.

“Secretary Jones-Bos is an experienced and highly-respected diplomat, who will bring her sharp insights of international affairs and development to our organization,” said Dr. Andrew Steer, President and CEO, World Resources Institute. “As we expand globally, we aim to deepen our strategic partnerships in Europe that will help us deliver greater impact around the globe. We look to leaders like Secretary Jones-Bos to inform our global strategy and help expand awareness of our policy analyses and tools among new audiences.”

Jones-Bos brings a wide range of experiences from within government with direct knowledge of politics and policymaking. Across her various roles, including as Ambassador to the United States, Jones-Bos has developed a deep understanding of how to build support for issues and create consensus among diverse stakeholders.

“Many of the challenges WRI is taking on are global in scale, but local in impact,” Jones-Bos said. “In the Netherlands, we see these environmental challenges, like sea-level rise, as manageable, given proper planning and smart investments. I am happy to be joining WRI in this critical decade to scale up the global response to water stress, climate change, governance, and more."

Jones-Bos joins WRI with more than thirty years of experience at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Jones-Bos was Ambassador-at-Large for Human Rights from 2000-2003, before becoming Deputy Director-General for Regional Policy and Consular Affairs from 2003 to 2005. She was Director-General for Regional Policy and Consular Affairs from 2005-2008.

“I am delighted to welcome Secretary Jones-Bos to our Board,” said Jim Harmon, Chairman of WRI’s Board of Directors. “Throughout her career, Secretary Jones-Bos has demonstrated a deep understanding of how to create policies and strategies that help people and the planet. I am sure that she will deliver a considerable impact on our Board and on WRI’s strategy moving forward.”
