WASHINGTON (July 5, 2018) —Today, Scott Pruitt resigned as the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

Following is a statement from Dan Lashof, Director, WRI United States:

“Scott Pruitt’s stint as the head of EPA has been the worst in the history of the agency. Under Pruitt’s direction, the EPA moved to undermine a wide range of vital protections for people and the environment—and the very mission of the EPA itself. Moreover, Pruitt led a crusade to undercut the critical role of science and transparency in policymaking.”

“Americans across the political spectrum agree on the importance of protecting the environment—the heart of the EPA’s mission. The agency was created by a Republican president and has had top-notch administrators from both political parties. While we won’t hold our breath, we hope that the next administrator will empower the agency to do its critical work to look after America’s environment and public health.”
