WASHINGTON (June 13, 2018)—At the Oslo Tropical Forest Forum (June 27-28), World Resources Institute’s Global Forest Watch will release brand new 2017 global tree cover loss data, revealing how much forest was lost around the world last year and emerging country hot spots to watch. The new satellite-based data analyzed by the University of Maryland, which will be live on globalforestwatch.org on Wednesday June 27 at 9:00AM CEST, provides a transparent view of how countries are managing this important resource.

On June 21, 2018, at 10:00am EDT/16:00 CEST, WRI will host a press call to preview the 2017 tree cover loss data findings for reporters. Speakers representing governments and civil society will join WRI experts to share insights from the data, discuss where progress has been made to protect forests over the past decade and explain where challenges persist.

NOTE: Embargoed copies of the 2017 data, analysis and graphics are available upon request. The content of the press call and data are embargoed for Wednesday, June 27 at 3:00AM EDT/9:00AM CEST.
