Carbon Capture & Sequestration (CCS) Senior Associate/Project manager
WRI’s Climate and Energy Program seeks a Senior Associate/Project Manager to manage the Carbon Capture and Sequestration (CCS) project.
CCS is gaining widespread attention as an essential component in any effort to stabilize atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases at an acceptable level. Significant gaps exist in the regulatory and policy framework that would guide its safe deployment. The WRI CCS Project is a stakeholder partnership between businesses, governments, NGOs, and other interested parties designed to build consensus on CCS project guidelines that ensure public confidence in these practices. Our initial work is focused primarily on the deployment of a domestic framework for CCS regulation in the United States, but follow-on work in key developing countries is also expected.
The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of cross-cutting CCS issues including geological sequestration, power generation, oil and gas production, greenhouse gas inventories and legal issues.
Responsibilities
Stakeholder Convening. The Senior Associate will manage an initiative to develop and test environmental, technical, and social guidelines for CCS projects. This will involve coordinating input and feedback from a multi-stakeholder group of government, industry, research, and NGO participants.
Research and Analysis. The Senior Associate will also monitor US and international activities related to CCS development.
Outreach and Communications. The Senior Associate will be expected to give presentations at conferences, workshops and other events related to carbon capture and sequestration. In addition, he or she will be responsible for organizing events (within WRI and at outside conferences) aimed at delivering our findings and messages to our target audiences. Outreach and communications may also include conducting media interviews, as well as liaising with board members, government officials, industry representatives and others in the environmental community. It is essential that the Senior Associate be able to engage groups of different interests and views with clarity and good humor.
Budgeting and Fundraising. The Senior Associate will be expected to build and maintain relationships with corporate and other donors and prospective donors. This will include identifying fundraising opportunities and drafting funding proposals for corporate donors as well as private foundations, government agencies, and bilateral donors. This will also include ongoing management of grants and project budgets and timely reporting to funders.
