The World Resources Institute (WRI) Climate and Energy Program seeks an intern with excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills for 3-6 months to assist in its work on U.S. climate change policy. WRI is a leader in providing objective, peer-reviewed analysis and recommendations for building strong greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction programs. The intern will play a key role in advancing such policies by conducting research and analysis and providing support for various projects including work on U.S. federal climate policy design and GHG offsets. This is a paid position and is open immediately.
Responsibilities
- Provide research and analytical support on a wide range of issues related to the role of GHG offsets at the state, regional, and federal levels, including analysis and evaluation of potential offset project types, international and domestic offset system design, and offset supply.
- Work with analysts in researching legislation, as well as energy and economic data, to better understand the emissions impacts of various policy proposals under consideration at the regional and federal levels.
- Undertake independent research projects that align with the objectives and mission of WRI’s climate policy work.
- Assist in research for WRI policy briefs and other publications.
- Support WRI team in Congressional outreach activities and outreach to other key audiences.
- Assist WRI team with media and communications activities.
- Provide general project support as needed.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree with a major in international relations, environmental policy, political science, public policy, or related field. Masters degree preferred.
- Knowledge of existing cap and trade programs, the carbon market, the energy sector, clean energy technologies, and/or the economics of climate policy highly desirable.
- Strong quantitative analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel a plus.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Ability to work well in a team, manage multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines.
