Climate & Energy: Business Engagement & Climate Technologies Associate

The World Resources Institute (WRI) seeks an Associate with strong analysis, project management, and communication skills to support its business and climate initiatives. The Associate will join the Business Engagement and Climate Technology (BECT) team, which manages a series of unique commercial partnerships dedicated to enabling the transition to a carbon-constrained economy and to accelerating the adoption of renewable energy technologies.

The position will focus on moving the corporate community toward meaningful climate and energy goals, addressing barriers to increasing distributed power generation, and developing innovative business models to increase corporate adoption of renewable power. Applicants must have a strong background in energy, especially renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. Additionally, applicants should have deep knowledge of the domestic energy sector, familiarity with U.S. climate legislation, and experience in the private sector.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with senior management at Global 1000 companies on climate and renewable energy strategies to define the next set of best practices for businesses to transition to a low-carbon economy
  • Develop innovative solutions to the regulatory, technology, and policy barriers limiting the expansion of distributed power generation in the U.S.
  • Organize business meetings and technical workshops with corporations, NGOs, and policy makers
  • Write case studies and briefs on business, policy, and regulatory issues
  • Regularly produce original, high-quality research and analysis on clean energy technologies, climate policy, and corporate actions
  • Develop communications strategies to reach the business community
  • Represent WRI in interactions with the media
  • Support other activities as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in economics, business, engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Masters and MBA candidates strongly encouraged to apply
  • 4-8 years of full-time work experience in energy sector, especially with renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies
  • Knowledge of the energy sector, renewable energy technologies, and climate change issues
  • Familiarity with public policy options for supporting renewables or addressing climate change
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent organization and project management skills
  • Ability to work well in a team, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under tight deadlines
  • Position is at WRI’s headquarters in Washington, DC. Occasional travel is required.

Salary & Benefits

Salary $50k – $60k, commensurate with experience.

Employment Period:
This is a term appointment of approximately 15 months.
