Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative Associate -China Office
WRI’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) team seeks a highly motivated individual with excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills for a full-time Associate position based in Beijing, China. The Associate will lead the implementation of GHG Protocol activities in China, reporting to the GHG Protocol Initiative Director, and coordinating with local partners to provide research and project management support to the GHG Protocol team at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC.
The GHG Protocol (http://www.ghgprotocol.org/) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol Initiative, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change.
Responsibilities
The Associate will work closely with the GHG Protocol team and the China Climate team on several research and project management activities, which may include:
- Seeking opportunities within China to collaborate with relevant government and business partners to promote the adoption of the GHG Protocol
- Supporting the GHG Protocol’s existing activities and partnerships in China
- Contributing to the design and management of energy and GHG programs in China to assist Chinese companies in accounting for energy consumption and GHG emissions
- Designing and conducting training and capacity-building workshops on the GHG Protocol
- Drafting and processing proposals, budgets, grant reports and contracts
Qualifications
Required
- Two to four years’ project management/program implementation experience in a relevant field (environmental science, policy, engineering, etc.); graduate degree highly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and interest in, energy and climate change issues, particularly in a business and/or policy context
- Excellent quantification skills
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Fluent in English and Mandarin
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other everyday computer applications
- Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work both independently and as part of a team
- Availability to travel
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of GHG Protocol standards and tools and Chinese energy tracking and performance metrics (e.g. T-1000 program)
- Background in cement manufacturing, energy efficiency, or engineering highly desirable
- Understanding of GHG emission trading
- Experience working with Chinese government, institutions, and businesses
