EMBARQ Communications Intern

EMBARQ, the World Resources Institute’s Center for Sustainable Transport, is seeking a college graduate for a full-time internship working with EMBARQ’s DC-based Communications Team. The position is open immediately, and will extend until at least mid-January (with the possibility of an extension of the internship, or the offer of full-time employment).

The intern will help to communicate and promote EMBARQ’s work around the world, as well as help manage and facilitate internal communications across the EMBARQ Network (currently, EMBARQ works in Washington DC, Mexico, Brazil, Turkey, India, and Peru).

Responsibilities

  • Write high-quality content on sustainable transportation issues for the EMBARQ website, TheCityFix.com blog, and the EMBARQ monthly newsletter;
  • Help manage the functioning of EMBARQ’s website and the blog;
  • Help manage EMBARQ’s suite of internal communications tools, including a wiki, an online project management system, and an online photo library;
  • Create video, audio, and photographic communications materials for online and conference outreach efforts;
  • Assist with the design, writing, and creation of print materials, such as brochures and publications;
  • Assist EMBARQ staff with the creation of effective PowerPoint presentations; and,
  • Assist with press releases, event coordination, and other public relations activities

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, or public policy, or a related field;
  • Extremely strong writing and editing skills in English;
  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience;
  • Advanced skills with the Adobe Suite of graphic design tools;
  • Broad familiarity with the function, use, and management of online software tools such as wikis, project management software, photo libraries (such as Flickr);
  • Strong computer skills - (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc);
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and ability to work both in a team and independently;
  • Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting;
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines; and,
  • Commitment to EMBARQ’s mission as well as WRI’s mission and values.

Desired Qualifications

  • Additional experience with environment, transport, or international development issues;
  • Written and oral communication skills in Spanish, Portuguese, Turkish, or Chinese;
  • Web development experience (design, coding, content management systems, etc);
  • Photography or Audio/Video experience
  • Print layout experience (InDesign, Quark, etc.)

 

Salary & Benefits:

$10-14/hour, commensurate with experience. No Benefits
