A one-day workshop organized by WRI and the Tanzania Traditional Energy Development Organization (TaTEDO) will gather stakeholders to discuss options for accelerating off-grid electrification solutions in Tanzania.

Decentralized electricity options such as mini-grids can play a complementary role in bringing electricity services to those without access. Tanzania has taken the lead in creating policy and regulatory environments to promote the deployment of mini-grids. But a lot more remains to be done if we are to realize Sustainable Development Goal 7 of modern energy for all.

A one-day workshop organized by WRI and the Tanzania Traditional Energy Development Organization (TaTEDO) gathered stakeholders to discuss options for accelerating off-grid electrification solutions in Tanzania. The workshop focused on exploring resources that government, development finance institutions, entrepreneurs and civil society stakeholders can draw on to implement off-grid solutions.

WRI and TaTEDO launched a new report, Accelerating Mini-grid Deployment in Sub-Saharan Africa: Lessons from Tanzania, and engage stakeholders in discussions around the findings. WRI will also launch the Tanzania Energy Access Maps, an interactive web-based tool with data on unserved electricity markets.

At the event, Eng. Godfrey Chibulunje, Director of Electricity, Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) presented on Tanzania's Third Generation Small Power Producer Rules 2017. View Eng. Chibulunje's slideshow presentation and contact Eng. Chibulunje for full details on the policy framework.
