Using Open Government for Climate Action. The public can serve an invaluable watchdog role, holding governments accountable for following through on their targets and making sure climate action happens in a way that’s fair and inclusive.

TAI and OGP

In the lead up to the Open Government Partnership Paris Summit, this event will bring together climate, open data, and open government civil society to expand new spaces for action and build momentum around implementation of the Paris Agreement. The OGP Summit provides an exciting opportunity to foster dialogue between governments and civil society and translate climate goals into tangible and ambitious commitments.

The OGP Summit agenda includes an exciting mix of workshops, panels, and proposals on open government reforms for advancing climate action in the OGP. The Global Gathering provides an exciting opportunity to discuss on how best to utilize this forum and outline the concrete steps needed to translate climate goals into tangible and ambitious commitments. It will focus around three central themes:

  1. Leveraging the OGP process to create climate commitments in Government National Action Plans that foster action on NDC (in full) implementation at the national level

  2. Building the capacity of civil society to drive open government processes around transparency, participation and accountability frameworks for NDC implementation

  3. Strengthening the inclusive and equitable participation of civil society in national climate coalitions that help overcome policy, institutional, and political barriers to decisive climate action.

We are partnering with Hivos, Transparency International, Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and the Open Governmental Partnership Support Unit in the creation of this event. The Gathering will be facilitated by Aspiration, a nonprofit organization which helps civil society use software tools more effectively and sustainably through supporting groups to make more impactful use of information technology in their social change efforts.

No formal speakers. This is a participatory event.
