Background Information

We live in a world where fresh water is becoming an increasingly scarce resource. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, some one billion people in 40 countries around the world live in areas that are chronically short of water. This trend is likely to worsen due to changing weather patterns, population growth and increasing industrialization. Some local communities are already responding to such shortages by implementing water recycling and reuse. However, many other communities are struggling to adopt or expand such programs. Concerted action is therefore needed to share successful models for directly addressing the challenge of water scarcity
