This joint WRI/UNEP/E3G event will promote a dialog among key negotiators and financial experts on possible elements of a new financial agreement for mitigation under the UNFCCC.
It is generally recognized that financing to support the development and deployment of technology, particularly in developing countries, is a key issue for COP-15. The UNFCCC has estimated the incremental financing needed to deploy technology in the year 2030, while a few Parties and think tanks have put forth proposals on how to raise the needed funds. However, there has been relatively little discussion regarding how additional money should be spent and how it should be managed. Recently, a few Parties and think tanks have put forth ideas on this subject.
