What Is SafeClimate?

SafeClimate is a retired WRI project. SafeClimate provided tools, information, and connections to help people take positive action against climate change in their homes, organizations, and local communities. The project included a carbon footprint calculator and website at safeclimate.net. However, WRI has discontinued the SafeClimate project, and the calculator has been taken offline and is no longer available.

What is a Carbon Footprint?

Your carbon footprint is a representation of the effect you have on the climate in terms of the total amount of greenhouse gases you produce (measured in units of carbon dioxide). Many of your actions generate carbon emissions, which contribute to accelerating global warming and climate change. By measuring your carbon footprint, you can get a better sense of what your individual impact is and which parts of your lifestyle deserve the greatest attention. Armed with such information you can more readily take effective action to shrink your carbon footprint, thereby minimizing your personal impact on the climate.

Although the SafeClimate Calculator is no longer available, several other organizations have tools available to help you calculate your personal or household carbon emissions. Here is a list of just a few:

WRI does not currently support or endorse any carbon footprint calculators. The methodology and accuracy of these tools may vary, and are the responsibility of the organization that hosts each one.
