The Access Initiative (TAI) approach to evaluating access to justice, access to information, and access to participation in environmental decisionmaking in countries around the world has met with great success. Both the civil society coalitions that have performed the assessments in their own countries and the governments which have been assessed appreciate the objectivity that the internationally-recognized and continually refined tool brings to their dialogue. Many regions have moved quickly to engage with the TAI process. Unfortunately, the Middle East has lagged.
