WASHINGTON (March 17, 2015)— The World Resources Institute announced today that Paul Bodnar will join the organization as a senior advisor for WRI's Sustainable Finance Center. Bodnar will help lead the Finance Center’s work on climate finance technical analysis, strategy and policy. Most recently, Bodnar served at the White House as director for Climate Change and Environment at the National Security Council.

The European Union issued its official proposed national climate action commitment, known as its “intended nationally determined contribution” (INDC) to the forthcoming global climate agreement. The EU set a binding, economy-wide reduction target of at least 40% reductions in its domestic emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, as well as a call for a regular review and strengthening of mitigation commitments consistent with a long-term goal to curb emissions.
Today the European Commission released a strategic policy document that describes the EU’s views on what the Paris climate agreement should look like and provides a first glimpse at what the EU will likely include in its “intended nationally determined contribution” (INDC) to the forthcoming global pact.
WASHINGTON (February 17, 2015)— Transparify released its 2015 ratings of the financial transparency of 169 think thanks.
For the second year in a row, the World Resources Institute earned the highest rating, “Five Star,” for high transparency by listing donors and clearly identifying funding sources for its projects. WRI is one of only two think tanks to earn the Five Star rating in Transparify's inaugural 2014 survey and again in 2015.
This week, international climate negotiators gathered in Geneva, Switzerland for the first in a series of negotiating sessions to establish an international climate agreement in Paris at the end of 2015.

Today, President Obama released his 2016 Budget Request outlining the administration’s spending plans for the coming fiscal year. The request includes $500 million in funding for the Green Climate Fund, and $230 million for the Climate Investment Funds. The budget allocation to the Green Climate Fund is part of the $3 billion pledge the U.S. made in November 2014, while $230 million requested for the Climate Investment Funds would complete a commitment made under the Bush Administration in 2008.
WASHINGTON (January 29, 2015)– The World Resources Institute announced that Kevin Moss will be the global director for its Business Center, which engages the private sector to advance corporate sustainability strategies worldwide. In this capacity, Moss will be a member of WRI’s global management team and will work with experts across the institute and its international offices.
WASHINGTON (January 12, 2015)— The World Resources Institute has appointed Dr. Nirarta “Koni” Samadhi, former deputy minister of Indonesia’s Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP4), as the new country director of WRI Indonesia. Dr. Koni and WRI have worked together over many years, and he joins WRI Indonesia at a time when its work in the forest, land use, and governance sectors is expanding.
During a presidential trip to India for India’s Republic Day celebrations, U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made major climate and clean energy announcements. India announced that it would establish a goal for the overall share of renewable energy in its energy mix, building on its recently increased solar energy target to upward of 100 GW by 2022; a new wind energy target of 60 GW is also under consideration.
WASHINGTON (January 22, 2015) – The World Resources Institute announced that Mark Robinson will be the global director for Governance. In this capacity, Robinson will direct WRI’s Governance Center and provide strategic and intellectual leadership, including around WRI’s analysis, strategy, fundraising and management. He will provide insights and guidance on governance issues across the institute.
