WASHINGTON (January 12, 2015)— The World Resources Institute has appointed Dr. Nirarta “Koni” Samadhi, former deputy minister of Indonesia’s Unit for Development Monitoring and Oversight (UKP4), as the new country director of WRI Indonesia. Dr. Koni and WRI have worked together over many years, and he joins WRI Indonesia at a time when its work in the forest, land use, and governance sectors is expanding.

During a presidential trip to India for India’s Republic Day celebrations, U.S. President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made major climate and clean energy announcements. India announced that it would establish a goal for the overall share of renewable energy in its energy mix, building on its recently increased solar energy target to upward of 100 GW by 2022; a new wind energy target of 60 GW is also under consideration.
WASHINGTON (January 22, 2015) – The World Resources Institute announced that Mark Robinson will be the global director for Governance. In this capacity, Robinson will direct WRI’s Governance Center and provide strategic and intellectual leadership, including around WRI’s analysis, strategy, fundraising and management. He will provide insights and guidance on governance issues across the institute.
President Obama’s first trip after the State of the Union tonight will be to India to visit with Prime Minister Modi, where they will announce new energy and climate efforts.
In a press teleconference on Wednesday, January 21, 2015, Indian and US experts will reflect on prospects for US-India collaboration and domestic action in India to curb emissions and address climate change.

WASHINGTON (January 14, 2015)— The Obama administration announced a goal to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40 to 45 percent (from 2012 levels) by 2025, along with a suite of actions to achieve this target. Methane is the second most important greenhouse after carbon dioxide and represents around 10 percent of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
The World Resources Institute has appointed former Mayor of Portland, Oregon, Sam Adams as the new director of its U.S. Climate Initiative. Adams will lead WRI’s strategy to analyze and develop new policies, build political will and support coalitions that will encourage the country’s transition to a strong, low-carbon economy.
From climate change to poverty reduction, 2015 is a year of immense opportunity to advance progress on sustainable transport and inclusive cities. Heads of state, mayors, and global leaders will convene in Washington, D.C., to discuss policies and opportunities for unlocking smart and sustainable urban growth.
