WASHINGTON (June 8, 2016)— World Resources Institute finds that analyzing the forests and plantations near palm oil mills can help identify deforestation risk and prevent it. Launched today on Global Forest Watch Commodities, the new PALM Risk Tool will help companies meet their zero deforestation commitments by providing much-needed transparency into the sustainability of the palm oil they buy.

BEIJING (June 8, 2016)— At the second China-US Climate Smart/Low Carbon Cities Summit, representatives from more than 50 cities came together to enhance cooperation on low-carbon development. Twelve Chinese cities pledged to peak their carbon emissions earlier than China’s national target of 2030, joining the 11 founding cities and provinces of the Alliance of Peaking Pioneer Cities (APPC). The APPC was launched in 2015 at the China-US Climate-Smart/Low Carbon Cities Summit.
WASHINGTON (June 7, 2016)-Prime Minister Modi and President Obama today released a new U.S.-India Joint Announcement on Climate and Clean Energy. The statement includes developments on a number of climate and energy related issues, including the Paris Agreement, Montreal Protocol and clean energy. This builds on previous announcements by the two countries last year.

COPENHAGEN/WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 6, 2016)—Today, 12 new cities and states joined the Building Efficiency Accelerator (BEA) partnership, part of the UN Sustainable Energy for All’s (SE4All), in an effort to double the rate of energy efficiency by 2030. Better building efficiency policies can result in 25-50 percent reductions in energy demand from both new and existing buildings, saving money and reducing pollution. The announcement was made today at the 3GF Global Green Growth Forum Summit 2016 in Copenhagen.
COPENHAGEN//WASHINGTON (June 6, 2016)—A partnership of leading international organizations is launching the Food Loss and Waste Accounting and Reporting Standard at the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) 2016 Summit in Copenhagen. The FLW Standard is the first-ever set of global definitions and reporting requirements for companies, countries and others to consistently and credibly measure, report on and manage food loss and waste. The standard comes as a growing number of governments, companies and other entities are making commitments to reduce food loss and waste.
WASHINGTON (June 2, 2016) – At the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM7) and inaugural Mission Innovation Ministerial today in San Francisco, the U.S. joined 21 governments and the European Union to announce new investments in renewable energy, including nearly $30 billion per year in clean energy research and development by 2021.

The climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany concluded today. This is the only formal round of international negotiations between the Paris climate summit last December and the forthcoming climate summit in Marrakech, Morocco (COP22) in November.

WASHINGTON (May 12, 2016)— Four non-governmental organizations have formed the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA), a new coalition to empower multinational companies to transform electricity systems with renewable energy. REBA aims to help facilitate and deploy 60 gigawatts (GWs) of new corporate renewable energy in the United States by 2025.
